‘Uninsured individual a community health concern’

Bangalore, Nov. 8 A cross section of leaders from corporates and institutions reflected their consensus on the need for quality practices as the key for improving the competitiveness of India Inc on the concluding day of the three-day CII-Quality Summit, organised by the Institute of Quality.

At the plenary session on “Improving Quality Practices through Cross Learning” by reaching out to consumers through affordable and accessible healthcare services through the Yashaswani Insurance Scheme, Dr Asha Naik, Medical Superintendent at Narayana Hrudayalaya, cautioned that the presence of a large number of uninsured individuals may adversely affect the health of the entire community due to the transmission of disease.

Mr L. Satyamurthy, Programme Director (Telemedicine), ISRO, said that telemedicine has simplified the process of healthcare from diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases and injuries. He said telemedicine could strengthen the ability of healthcare providers and health administrators to reach 80 per cent of the population spread in inaccessible and remote islands in around 6,27,000 villages.

Mr K.V. Rama Mohan, Group Head (IMS & BPO Quality), Infosys Technologies, stressed on the importance of the needs of an Integrated Management System model that was linked to business strategy, people and culture and technology, during his address titled ‘Enhancing Organisational Effectiveness Through Integrated Management Systems.

Unsung Heroes

The plenary session — “India@75: The Unsung Heroes and their Silent Revolution” — showcased efforts of some institutions and companies which were making significant contributions outside the corporate sector.

These included the Kuruvila Jacob Memorial Educational Trust, Chennai, which promotes excellence in school education through adopting Total Quality Management with clusters of school in Chennai, including private and corporation schools.
