Bangalore, Nov. 8 Wipro Furniture Business on Saturday launched a new range of office furniture — I’M, which, the company claims, is India’s first ‘Leg and Beam based system.

The company has also filed for three product patent applications for this product, positioned as a premium product. It is “investing in a modern manufacturing facility” at Waluj in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, especially for this product and other premium ranges, said the company.

Mr Vineet Agrawal, President, Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, refused to divulge the investment details. However, about Rs 100 crore would be invested for overall expansion in Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, he said.

A green product, I’M has been designed for contemporary new-age offices. Mr Agrawal said that its launch would position Wipro Furniture Business as a design company. There are also plans to introduce new premium designs in furniture and seating, “designed by leading international designers, exclusively for Wipro,” he added.

The company has already bagged orders for this range, and installations would be started by the month-end, said Mr Parag Kulkarni, Vice-President – Furniture Business, Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting.

The growth of infrastructure is very critical to the company’s growth, Mr Agrawal said. “Our focus on new products and technologies will deliver the next wave of growth in these businesses,” he added. According to him, the modular furniture and seating market is estimated at Rs 1,600 crore, which was growing at 15-20 per cent. He said that Wipro Furniture Business grew at 50 per cent in the first half of the year, and was among “the top 3 companies in that space”.
