Manipal, Nov. 9

Fourteen companies from various sectors of industry participated in the 16th edition of Brand Scan – the two-day annual market research fair of the Manipal-based T.A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI).

Speaking at the inauguration of the event here on Saturday, Prof Simon George, Dean (Academics) of TAPMI, said that this unique market research fair began in 1993 with a group of four students coming out with an idea to hold such an event. In the first edition of Brand Scan, 10 companies participated. Till now, Brand Scan has done market research for nearly 170 companies, he said.

The aim of the Brand Scan is to conduct market research projects in Manipal for corporate clients. In this, students have chosen a format of a gala fair to bring together the consumers in a single place and collect data through games. The unique demographic profile of Manipal makes it very attractive for research.

To attract people to Brand Scan, the organisers host tailor-made events for the varied tastes of the people of Manipal and the various target segments.

Prof George said that the findings of the Brand Scan have helped companies to modify strategies, products and pricing.

Dr A.S. Vasudeva Rao, Director (in-charge) of TAPMI, said that Brand Scan has great academic value. The post-Brand Scan reports are well accepted among the companies, he added.

According to the organisers of the event, the average footfall for this event is over 8,000. Business Line is the Print Media Partner for Brand Scan.

The regular market research projects are accompanied by various other events such as ‘Mr Biker’, ‘War of DJs’, fashion show for young generation, drawing competition for school students, and ‘Adarsh Dampati’.

‘Mr Biker’ engrosses the audience through magnificent stunts performed by the participants, and ‘War of DJs’ is a competition between professional disc jockeys.
