Events States - Kerala Food festival next month Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 9 The city-based Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action will organise a ‘national food and agro biodiversity festival’ in the city next month. To be held from December 27 to December 31 at the Chandrashekaran Nair Stadium in the city, the event is an offshoot of ‘Annam’ or the ‘Good Food Movement’ that has been launched by the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action. According to the event’s organisers, the festival is intended to draw attention to the richness and importance of India’s agro biodiversity and highlight many of India’s traditional foods and food related practices. The festival is also part of an effort to create awareness about the negative impacts of fast and processed food and the loss of agro biodiversity. The loss of agro biodiversity is a threat to food security, said Dr C. Sureshkumar, who is on the event’s organising committee. An organic bazaar, an exhibition with over 200 stalls, seminars and workshops are some components of the festival. Other highlights of the event include a food festival with traditional cuisine from different parts of the country and a ‘grandma’s kitchen’ to show how various traditional dishes are cooked. Several departments of the State Government, including the departments of agriculture and food and civil supplies, are supporting the event.
