Role of supervision

The article “Global oversight of the financial sector” (Business Line, November 10) highlights the importance of supervision. Whatever spade work done by the RBI, post-global disaster, may turn into a futile exercise, if adequate checks and balances are not put in place.

The RBI needs to don a dual role, that of a watchdog as well as a bloodhound, if and when necessary.
