Tea Record volume on offer at Coonoor tea auctions P.S. Sundar Coonoor, Nov. 12 An analysis of brokers’ catalogues indicates that 16.51 lakh kg are being offered for Sale No: 46 at the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) auctions to be held on Thursday and Friday. This is the highest volume offered so far in 2008. It is as much as 3.68 lakh kg more than last week’s offer. Again, it is as much as 6.08 lakh kg offered this time last year. The arrival of fresh teas continues to be in the same pattern as in recent weeks. They account for 10.94 lakh kg. But, as much as 5.57 lakh kg comprise teas remaining unsold in previous auctions. Of the 16.51 lakh kg on offer, 11.32 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 5.19 lakh kg belong to the dust grades. Again, as much as 15.48 lakh kg belong to CTC variety and only 1.03 lakh kg, orthodox variety. Orthodox share lowThe proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.53 lakh kg belong to orthodox while 10.79 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 0.50 lakh kg belong to orthodox while 4.69 lakh kg, CTC.
