Airlines States - Karnataka Mangalore airport’s new terminal to be ready soon A.J. Vinayak Mangalore, Nov. 12 The new integrated terminal building of Mangalore airport is likely to be operational by the end of January, according to Mr L.L. Krishnan, Regional Executive Director (Southern Region), Airports Authority of India (AAI). In an informal chat with Business Line here, he said that the new integrated terminal building will be ready for operation in another two months. Nearly 70 per cent of the work on the building is completed, and construction of major structures is over. The terminal building is being built at a cost of Rs 147 crore. Built on 18,200 square metres of area, the new integrated project includes terminal building with two aerobridges, apron and taxiway. Strengthening of the runway has been taken up at a cost of Rs 15 crore at Belgaum airport. Night landing facility will be provided at Belgaum airport in six months, he said. When his attention was drawn to plans of the Karnataka Government to develop airstrips in various parts of the State, Mr Krishnan said AAI would provide air traffic service in these proposed airstrips. The Karnataka Government is planning to develop airstrips in Bellary, Bidar, Gulbarga, Shimoga, Kodagu and Chikmagalur in the state. Nearly Rs 300 crore is being spent for various development projects – including the construction of the new terminal building at Mangalore – in Karnataka, he added.
