Airlines 13% decline in domestic air travellers in Oct Our Bureau New Delhi, Nov. 12 In October this year, the domestic airline industry flew about 13 per cent fewer passengers than what it carried during the same period in the previous year. The latest data collated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) shows that during October this year the domestic airlines carried 31.33 lakh passengers, which is almost 4.68 lakh less passengers flown in the same period previously. This is the fifth consecutive month this year that the industry has carried lesser passengers than the same period in the previous year In October, IndiGo, was the only carrier to fly more passengers at 4.02 lakh as compared to what it carried during the same period in the previous year. Air Deccan which carried 4.18 lakh passengers and Jet Airways that flew 6.17 lakh passengers were among the biggest sufferers during the month. Both the airlines reported a decrease of 1.5 lakh passengers each as compared to the previous year. The other airlines which reported a drop in passenger numbers include Indian Airlines (Domestic) which flew almost 60,000 lesser passengers than previously and low cost airline SpiceJet which carried around 59,000 lesser passengers than previously. Kingfisher Airline at 4.45 lakh registered a decline of about 14,000 passengers carried during October this year. More Stories on : Airlines
