Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 13

The Kerala Government will constitute a committee to study the problems faced by the IT industry in the State and recommend ways to solve them.

This emerged at a meeting the Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, and government officials had with representatives of the industry here on Thursday.

The meeting was held against the background of allegations that certain IT companies in Technopark had forced some of the employees to quit their jobs.

The committee, comprising officials of Industries and Labour departments and representatives of the IT industry, will submit the report on its findings and recommendations within a month.

Health issues

It was also decided at the meeting to form another committee to study the health issues faced by the employees. Representatives from the medical field as also from the IT industry will be the members on the panel.

The leaders of the IT industry said at the meeting that the global financial meltdown had not as yet affected the industry in the State. But, the situation might change within the next three or six months and the Government should then come forward to help the industry out.

The Chief Minister said that if the going became tough for the industry in the coming days, the Government would review the situation and decide on what to do next.
