Hubli Rly divn records 2.7% growth in loading

Hubli division of the South Western Railway (SWR) zone recorded an increase of 2.7 per cent in originating loading during the first six months of the current financial year, according to Mr Adesh Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Hubli Division.

The originating loading of the Hubli division stood at 19.22 million tonnes till the end of September this year as against 18.71 million tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

A press release by the Hubli division said here on Thursday that Mr Sharma said this at the mid-term performance review of the division at Hubli on Wednesday.

The total earnings of the division till the end of September was Rs 2,025.49 crore (Rs 1,308.02 crore), registering a growth of 54.85 per cent.

Mr Sharma said Hubli division earned originating freight earning of Rs 386.04 crore during April, which was the best and highest ever monthly freight originating earning. The division earned gross earnings of Rs 401.41 crore in May, which was the best ever monthly originating gross earning.

During the first six months of the current fiscal, the total passenger traffic of the division stood at 1.44 crore (1.25 crore) and earnings on passenger traffic at Rs 73.17 crore (Rs 65.20 crore).

After reviewing the performance of the Hubli division, Mr Praveen Kumar, General Manager of SWR, suggested to expedite improvements to model stations in Bijapur, Dharwad, Gadag, Londa and Ghataprabha. Plans should be made for new business for loading maize, fertilizer and other commodities in trains, he added.
