New Products & Services eMudhra from 3i Info Our Bureau Mumbai, Nov. 13 Mid-size IT services firm 3i Infotech has launched digital signatures that would make electronic transactions more secure for retail customers. Christened eMudhra, the initiative will be made available at a starting price of Rs 99 a year (for one digital signature) through 3i Infotech Consumer Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the ICICI Bank-promoted company, Mr V. Srinivasan, Managing Director and CEO of 3i Infotech, said at a news conference here on Thursday. A digital signature is an electronic equivalent of an identification card such as a passport or a driving license. It is issued through a valid certification authority. 3i-Infotech has bagged the licence for offering digital signatures from the Controller of Certifying Authorities, Department of Information Technology. “All the existing players in the space generally cater to corporate firms. We are the first company to target the business to consumer space,” said Mr Srinivasan. Over time, the company expects to move a number of paper-based transactions into the electronic realm. Citing an example, Mr Ravi Jagannathan, Managing Director & CEO, 3i Infotech Consumer Services Ltd, said that the current cap on the amount that can be transferred through the Internet from one bank to another is largely due to security issues. With digital signatures, retail customers would be able to transfer any amount, he said. More Stories on : New Products & Services | E-Governance
