Our Bureau Mumbai, Nov. 14 Additional Solicitor General of India, Mr Mohan Parasaran, representing the Union Government in the ongoing RIL vs RNRL case said on Friday that an officer from the Ministry of Petroleum can be cross-examined in the case by RNRL counsel, only after the company issues a ‘Chamber Summons’. Issuing a Chamber Summons is a court procedure for supporting ones claim in the court. The division bench of the Bombay High Court in its November 11 direction had asked the Government to keep the concerned officer ready for cross examination. Due the issues raised by Mr Parasaran the officer could not cross examined today.
The bench said that the Government needs to clarify whether it would be regulating the price of gas and if this decision has any bearing on the current litigation between RIL and RNRL. Mr Parasaran said that the price cannot be diverse and separated from gas valuation.
