Jewellery expo begins in Kochi

Kochi, Nov. 14

The three-day Kerala Gem and Jewellery Show 2008, the first ever B2B jewellery show aimed at boosting trade and bringing the retail sector closer to manufacturer, began here at Hotel Le Meridien. In his inaugural speech, the State Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Elamaram Kareem, said the Government would extend full support to the exhibition and there are plans to make the show an annual event to coincide with the Kerala Shopping Festival. The exhibition, apart fro m promoting the jewellery industry and trade, will help create new job opportunities in the State. The objective of the show is to provide an ideal platform for jewellery manufacturers, retailers, artisans, exporters and wholesalers to interact, network, source the latest designs and enhance their knowledge and further their business prospects. The State Industries Secretary, Mr T. Balakrishnan, hoped that the show will act as a catalyst in the growth of gem and jewellery sector. Mr P.V. Jose, convenor of the event and chief patron Jewellery Manufacturers Association, said the show will provide national networking opportunities for the small and medium manufacturers and exhibitors.
