Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 15 State Bank of Travancore celebrated Children’s Day by adopting girl children from schools across the country.

To begin with, the bank has adopted 22 children from Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Kochi, Kozhikode, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Secunderabad.

The adopted children are in the age group of six to 14 years, hail from disadvantaged families and are academically proven. Some of them are differently abled. A few of the children have shown brilliance in extra-curricular activities such as poetry, sports, dance and music, according to bank officials.

According to the adoption scheme, the bank will bear the cost of tuition, books and stationery, uniform and transport to the school and back, subject to a maximum Rs 5,000 a month, for each child.

The scheme was launched at a function here and similar functions were simultaneously held at zonal and regional office levels.
