Entertainment, trade fest await visitors at Volvo Race Village

Our Bureau

Kochi, Nov. 16 As part of Volvo Ocean Race exhibition, Volvo group will present its world-class simulator at Willingdon Island and the public will be given an opportunity to walk around the Race Village.

There will be the interactive Volvo Ocean Race experience, comprising the Ride, the Dome, the Pool and the Grinding Challenge.

The Ride is a simulator that gives users the sensation of what it is like to be at sea on a Volvo Open 70 in extreme conditions.

The Dome is a cinematic representation of life onboard during the race, while the Pool allows participants to show their tactical skills on scale model Volvo Ocean Race boats during an in-port race.

The Grinding Challenge is a test of strength, showing just how physically demanding the boats can be, a press release issued here said.

Trade fest

An exhibition of Indian brands, named Ocean Race Trade Fest, will be organised from December 2 to 13. Volvo Ocean Race Stopover has been considered as a perfect platform for launching of products and services.

Public will be allowed free entry into the Race Village. However, there will be strict security regulations and all visitors will be subjected to security search. Visitors will not be allowed to carry packets, bags and briefcases.

Considering the business potential and visitor turnout, the organisers of the Stopover have decided to provide an opportunity to the local business community to showcase their products and services at the Trade Fest.

The Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 will be the 10th running of this ocean marathon. Spanning some 37,000 nautical miles, stopping at 11 ports and taking nine months to complete, the Volvo Ocean Race is the world’s premier yacht race for professional racing crews.

Entertainment

The Port Chairman, Mr N. Ramachandran, said that traditional and contemporary art forms are going to be performed during the 10-day stopover.

Meanwhile, the Leg Two of the Volvo Ocean Race, a 4,450-mile race to Kochi, has started from Cape Town in South Africa. Puma, Green Dragon and Erricson 4 were in the front line. The yachts are expected to start reaching Cochin from December 3. The Third Leg to Singapore will start on December13.
