Kingfisher Airlines pays part of Rs 286 cr to AAI

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Nov. 17 Kingfisher Airlines on Monday night made a ‘significant payment’ of the more than Rs 286 crore it owes the state-owned airport operator, Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The payment was made following a meeting between the Chairman of Kingfisher Airlines, Mr Vijay Mallya, and the Chairman, AAI, Mr K. Ramalingam.

Sources indicated that there should be an “amicable resolution” of all pending issues tomorrow after another meeting between Mr Mallya and Mr Ramalingam.

There were apprehensions that AAI might encash the Rs 67-crore bank guarantee of Kingfisher Airlines, in case the airline was unable to pay the state-owned airport operator.

All airlines have to pay a fee to AAI for landing and parking its aircraft, the space provided for check-in and other facilities at the airport as also for the route navigation services provided.
