Opinion - Letters
Time air fares were reduced

It is unfortunate that though more than two weeks have passed since the oil marketing companies reduced the prices of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) used by the aviation industry by more than 30 per cent, leading airlines, including Air India, are yet to reduce passenger fares.

Only last month, with the intervention of the Civil Aviation Minister, some leading private airlines were extended six months’ credit for settling the huge ATF bill arrears pending with the oil companies. The reciprocating gesture of passing on the benefits to the customers should be made by the airlines, given the falling ATF prices.

It is time the Ministry of Civil Aviation intervened in the matter so that airlines do not make huge profits at the cost of the passengers’ ignorance.
