Hyderabad, Nov. 18 There is no unemployment problem in India. It is more of a problem of un-employability, feels Mr Abhirama Krishna, Global Business Director, Satyam School of Leadership, Satyam Computer Services Ltd.

There is a gap between what the industry needs and what the colleges are imparting to the students, he said while delivering a lecture on ‘Industry expectations from an MBA’, at the Guru Nanak Engineering College, Department of Management Studies, Ibrahimpatnam.

More than 200 students of the MBA and MCA courses of the college attended the lecture organised by the Business Line Club. Mr Krishna asked the students to go beyond the syllabus prescribed by the universities to really become “Masters” of Business Administration.

Skills and attitudes

In an interactive session, he said the industry expectations are ‘ASK’ whereas colleges believe in KSA. Elaborating, he said A stands for attitude, S for skills and K for knowledge. Industry looks for attitude first and then skills and knowledge later. The colleges, on the other hand, overemphasise knowledge and give little or no importance to attitude.

Companies recruit for attitude and train for skills. My suggestion to students is if you want to really develop positive attitude, learn not to compromise.

Attitude is the most important element checked by the HR department and one can be easily filtered in this process in the very first go. Everyone should develop quick learning for his progress and to grow with the organisations. He classified job seekers into “Can Do” and “Will Do” lots. Most of the students fit into the former category, while companies look for the latter lot.

Fresh Graduates can offset their “lack of industry experience” by way of doing project work genuinely.

Unfortunately almost 90 per cent of the project works are copied, he lamented.

Working under stress

Students should learn how to monitor stress as it leads to health disorders. Industry expects that one should know how to cope up with stress. The modern business environment requires working under deep stress environment but to work productively with speed.

Hobbies help to a large extent to relieve stress, the Satyam executive added.

Mr C. Subramanyam, Associate Professor of Management and Dr A.G. Prasad, Head of the Department of Management Studies, spoke on the occasion and explained the activities of the Institute.
