Customs seizes contraband rice

Kochi, Nov. 18

Kochi Customs on Tuesday seized 54 tonnes of rice of a city-based company from the port here for declaring the consignment as coconut. Sources in the port said the company has violated the DGFT’s notification banning export of all rice varieties, except basmati. The customs seized three 20-ft containers from the pre-stage area of the port. The Customs also seized three containers belonging to the same company from the container terminal for re-examination. –
