Our Bureau

Bangalore, Nov. 20 Biesse SpA, the Italy-based manufacturer of integrated machines and systems for wood, glass and stone processing, has set up a manufacturing plant in Nelamangala, near Bangalore.

The plant, set up with an investment of Rs 28.3 crore (€4.5 million), will serve as a supply hub for other countries in the Asian region.

Terming this a ‘strategic investment,’ Mr Riccardo Quattrini, Sales and Marketing Director, Biesse SpA, told newspersons here, “This will help us to produce locally and sell in Indian and Asian markets high quality woodworking machines and provide after-sales service support to our customers.”

He said that the technology of woodworking would help in bringing ‘world-class furniture at affordable prices into the country.’ The 5,800-sq-ft manufacturing plant has set a target of 50 machines in 2008, 180 machines in 2009 and 280 machines in the following year.

Biesse Manufacturing, which is a part of Biesse SpA, will also export about 30 per cent of the machines manufactured in Bangalore, according to Mr Sayeed Ahmed, CEO, Biesse Manufacturing.
