Fishermen at work in the backwaters at Cherai near Kochi. Popular and indigenous varieties of fish, which have all but disappeared from the dining table due to their low availability, are set to make a comeback, thanks to the introduction of fish farming in 700 panchayats in Kerala. The programme, Malsya Keralam, will use at least 10,000 hectares of water bodies across the State.
