Cashew ‘Vision 2020’ to help prepare road map for cashew sector A.J. Vinayak Mangalore, Nov. 21 In its efforts to prepare a road map that can be implemented by stakeholders in cashew economy, the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India (CEPCI) will launch ‘Vision 2020’ in Mangalore on November 22. Mr G. Giridhar Prabhu, Convenor of Vision 2020 of CEPCI, told Business Line that ‘Vision 2020’ is a set of aims and objectives conceived to visualise the cashew economy of India in relation to the world. India has been the world number one in cashew kernel production and throughput for long. This leadership is required to be sustained. “The project will prepare an ‘approach’ and a ‘road map’ that can be implemented by stakeholders,” he said. The project would identify all stakeholders — such as producers of raw cashew nuts, State Governments and the Central Government and their departments and institutions, manufacturers, traders and consumers — in the cashew value chain. The roles and functions of each stakeholder will be defined and then draft critiques and positions will be prepared for circulation. “On the basis of opinion and feedback, an approach document will be prepared for each component of the vision,” he said. Asked about the impact of ‘Vision 2020’ on cashew sector, Mr Prabhu said the agenda is for holistic growth. He said the growth will be in terms of three ‘P’s — production, productivity and profitability. To a query on the timeframe for the project, he said the approach documents will be prepared in nine months, and another three months will form the review for implementation. ‘Vision 2020’, which is a project of CEPCI, will be hosted by the Karnataka Cashew Manufacturers’ Association (KCMA). The project office of ‘Vision 2020’ will be housed in the premises of KCMA, he added. More Stories on : Cashew
