Export enquiries for orthodox tea at Kochi sales


Major blenders operated on good liquoring CTCs while inter-state buyers remained selective.

Kochi, Nov. 21 Despite the surge in arrivals of both leaf and dust tea at the Kochi Tea Auction, prices continued to remain steady to lower. There was better demand from the loose tea trade sector, while exporters remained less active at the dust auction.

Major blenders operated on good liquoring CTCs while inter-state buyers remained selective.

At the leaf auction, there was fair amount of export enquiry for orthodox grades, while CTC faced fair amount of enquiry from blenders and interstate buyers.

Dust & Leaf Sales

About 12,70,000 kg of dust tea were on offer, where CTC dust and finer grades were dearer, bolder CTC grades were steady and plain CTC witnessed easier tendencies. Orthodox dust grades also quoted lower. Best CTC grades quoted Rs 85-110, medium CTC was at Rs 75-85 and below medium fetched Rs 62-68. High grown orthodox fetched Rs 105 and medium BOPD was at Rs 56-59.

Nearly 4,33,000 kg of leaf tea were on offer where prices of high grown and orthodox medium grades eased. CTC grades also tended to ease. Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 72-85, medium orthodox was at Rs 56-66 and plain orthodox quoted Rs 52-55. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 72-78 and medium CTC leaf was at Rs 65-68.

Top Prices

In the dust segment Pausparai FD fetched the top price at Rs 121 followed by Pasuparai SFD at Rs 120, Monica SFD at Rs 115 and Pasuparai SD at Rs 110. At the leaf auction Sutton OP fetched the top price of Rs 141 followed by Chamraj OP at Rs 140, Chamraj FOP at Rs 129 and Parkside OP at Rs 126.
