Nimmagadda Foundation, LVPEI tie up

Hyderabad, Nov. 21

The Nimmagadda Foundation of Mr N Prasad has committed Rs 15-crore financial support to LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) to take up a children’s eye health initiative. The programme ‘Nimmagadda Prasad – LVPEI Children’s Eye Health Initiative’, will create infrastructure to screen children in the State and provide primary and tertiary treatments for the needy to prevent avoidable blindness in the State by 2020. The screening, treatment and surge ries would be performed by LVPEI at Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and 50 rural centres in the State, according to a release. The childhood blindness is the second largest cause of blindness in the developing world, followed by cataract. Andhra Pradesh alone has about 50,000 blind children besides another 1.5 lakh with poor vision. About 5 per cent of children between 10 years and 15 years have serious vision problems in the country in which over a one-third are avoidable, the release added.
