Software States - Andhra Pradesh Karnataka, BSA in pact to ‘make industry secure’ Our Bureau Coimbatore, Nov. 21 A campaign has been launched in Karnataka to recognise small and medium IT and ITeS companies as leaders in Software Asset Management (SAM) and promote the importance of corporate governance and intellectual property rights. The campaign was launched by Business Software Alliance (BSA) and the Centre for e-Governance, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms on Friday. This campaign, BSA sources say, aims to establish Karnataka as a model State by promoting organisational productivity and network security through the implementation of model SAM practices within businesses and encouraging innovation through the promotion of IPR protection and reducing software piracy. The State still remains the preferred destination for IT business across the globe with Bangalore earnings totalling around $13.5 billion this fiscal. Mr Keshav Dhakad, Chair of the BSA India Committee, said this (the coming together of the Government of Karnataka and the BSA) marked a major milestone in the IT sector of the State. “This partnership would make the industry globally competitive, secure and legitimate, which in turn would translate into higher revenues for the industry, more taxes for the Government and hi-tech, high wage jobs for job seekers.” He said the BSA aimed to sensitise the IT industry in Karnataka about managing software as an asset within enterprises to enhance productivity, reduce financial and legal risk and enhance security.
