Baumer Group opens wholly-owned unit in Pune

Pune, Nov. 21 Swiss Baumer Group, player in the field of automation, has opened its wholly-owned subsidiary, Baumer India Pvt Ltd in Pune. This would facilitate its direct sales operations in India.

Talking to presspersons Mr Rudgier Foerster, Member, Executive Board of the Baumer Group and Head (Worldwide Sales and Marketing), and Mr Sunil Hasabnis, Managing Director of Baumer India, said the current Indian focus would be on products in the sensor solution and process instrumentation. The company caters to sensor solutions, motion control, process instrumentation, vision technology and gluing systems.

He noted that Baumer India was incorporated in January 2007and has become fully operational since the second half of 2008. These solutions, he said, were used in infrastructure, nuclear, wind mills and avionics. Mr Sunil said the total market size for these products in the domestic market is Rs 1,500 crore. He said it was targeting 10 per cent of the domestic market for its sales and 25 per cent in the Asian region. Currently about 2 per cent of the global turnover comes from the domestic market. He said it is also in the process of setting up other office locations in the country and that in the first phase it would be setting up another office in New Delhi and a second could be in Chennai, Hyderabad or Bangalore.

These offices would be opened in the current fiscal and for the next fiscal it would looking at opening offices in UAE to cater to West Asian markets, as also Brazil for the South American market. Mr Sunil said it is also in talks with couple of companies in Pune for the process instrumentation segment and one in the sensor solution segment for a possible acquisition and added that talks are in advanced stages for this.
