Shipping/Ports Strings to connect Asia, US
France’s CMA CGM and Denmark’s Maersk Line, through a new vessel sharing agreement, have decided to launch from May 2009 two joint strings linking Asia and the US east and west coasts. The first string, known as the Columbus Loop, will be the pendulum service linking Japan, China, Southeast Asia and the US east coast via the Suez Canal, Southeast Asia, China, Korea and the Pacific North West. The port rotation will be Shanghai-Hong Kong-Yantian-Singapore-Suez-N ew York-Norfolk-Tangier-Suez-Singapore-Hong Kong-Yantian-Shanghai-Pusan-Seattle-Vancouver-Yokohama-Shanghai. The second string, known as the Hudson Loop, will link China, Korea and the US east coast via Panama and the port rotation will be Ningbo-Shanghai-Qingdao-Pusan-Balboa-Panama-Savannah-New York-Miami-Panama-Balboa-Ningbo. The string through the Suez will be operated with vessels of 6,500 TEU capacity, seven to be operated by Maersk and the remaining six by CMA CGM. OUR BUREAU More Stories on : Shipping/Ports
