Outlook Ford banks on Fiesta hatchback in India Murali Gopalan Mumbai, Nov 23 Like GM, Ford has its back to the wall in the US but unlike its American ally, does not have a Daewoo for an easier drive. Despite this, Ford is still upbeat about its India prospects. Suppliers associated with the company told Business Line that they were confident of the new car (codenamed the B256) which is a hatchback version of the Fiesta seen in Europe. There have been unconfirmed reports that the dies and toolings will be transferred to the Chennai plant, which could mean a possibility of greater numbers being generated here and exported to neighbouring countries. Chrysler, of course, is neither here nor there. After its disastrous merger with Daimler and now in the hands of Cerebrus Equity, it faces a bleak future as it does not have any backup plan in the form of emerging markets in Asia.
