Rajasekhara Reddy promises lift irrigation plans for 3 districts

Visakhapatnam, Nov 24 A massive lift irrigation scheme will be taken on the Godavari to irrigate 3.21 lakh acres in Visakhapatnam district, 3.94 lakh acres in Vizianagaram and 85,000 acres in Srikakulam district, according to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

The Chief Minister, who toured the district on Sunday and Monday, said at a press meet at Tangedu village on Monday that the foundation stone for the lift irrigation scheme – Uttara Andhra Sujala Sravanti – would be laid by Ms Sonia Gandhi in the second week of December.

New year gift

“It will be a new year gift to the people of the three north-coastal districts. The project envisages bringing of 63.2 tmc water from the Godavari from near Sitanagaram village in East Godavari district and two more lifts would be needed in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram district.
