Panel on Amritsar airport set up
New Delhi, Nov 24
A committee headed by the Minister for Youth Affairs
and Sports, Dr M.S. Gill, has been set up to suggest
measures for improving Amritsar airport and
connectivity to and from there. The decision to set up the
committee, which has been asked to finalise its
recommendations within one month, comes after several
international airlines have said that they will withdraw
regular services from the city.
From early February, Singapore Airlines is to stop operating its Singapore-
Amritsar flight, while Jet Airways is also planning to
withdraw the Amritsar-Birmingham flight from early
December. The airlines cite the high airport costs and the
dip in international traffic from Amritsar as being the
primary reason for withdrawing flights from the city. -
