Mumbai, Nov. 25

Singapore-based the Asian Forum on CSR has awarded Hindustan Zinc the Asian CSR Excellence Award – 2008 for the Zinc Integrated Poverty Alleviation Programme. About 170 entries from 120 companies based out of 15 countries vied for the award. The programme has been primarily aimed at four districts of Rajasthan such as Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Rajsamand. It was executed under two categories ‘sustainable livelihood project (farm and non-farm)’ and &# 8216;integrated nutrition and health-based project for women and children’. In promoting women empowerment 185 self-help groups have been developed with about 2,800 members. Under providing nutrition to women and children, Hindustan Zinc has been running two projects- ‘Mid-Day Meal Scheme’ and ‘Integrated Child Development Centre - Anganwadi Project’.
