Human Resources States - Karnataka Striking Wipro unit worker ends life Our Bureau Bangalore, Nov. 25 The workers’ strike at Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting’s Mysore factory over wages, on for about a month now, took a bad turn on Tuesday when a worker committed suicide, allegedly owing to financial problems. About 300 workers, including permanent workers, contract labourers and casual workers, are on strike since October 27 over a wage dispute. The 42-year-old worker, Hanumantha Shetty, was an operator at the factory. Mr H.V. Anantha Subbarao, State General Secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress, which the workers’ union is affiliated to, said the union leaders at the factory were now demanding a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the bereaved family and a job for a family member. The company will provide a financial package to the family, said a spokesperson, without giving details. Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting is part of the software services company Wipro Ltd.
