HC notice to Govt on spectrum

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Nov. 26 The Delhi High Court has sent a notice to the Government seeking response to a petition filed against spectrum allocation to existing GSM mobile operators.

The petition was filed by Telecom Watchdog against the Government’s decision to allocate spectrum beyond 6.2 Mhz to existing players, including Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar.

A similar petition was earlier filed by CDMA operators in the telecom tribunal on the grounds that existing GSM players had got additional spectrum illegally.

The High Court had earlier sent a notice to DoT seeking a response on its policy to give spectrum to new players on first-come-first-served basis. That petition was filed by an individual on the grounds that new private operators were making windfall gains by selling equity stake in their companies.
