Mumbai, Nov. 27 Marine commandoes rescued around 250 persons from Taj Hotel on Thursday morning, Capt Manohar Nambiar, Chief Public Relation Officer (Defence), Mumbai told Business Line.
One rucksack full of plastic explosives, eight-nine loaded AK-47 magazines, large amounts of ammunition, hand grenades, detonators, batteries, wrist watches for IEDs, foreign currencies, fake credit cards, dry fruits and cash carried by the terrorists were recovered, he said. The marine commandoes (Marcos) withdrew from Taj Hotel and were continuing operations in Trident late in the evening.
“Consequent to the terrorist attack in South Mumbai, the Government of Maharashtra sought the assistance of the Indian Navy at 1 a.m. on Thursday. Following the request, Navy deployed its commandoes to the Taj Mahal and Oberoi Hotels. They have now taken up positions around the hotels to pre-empt any further escalation of the situation,” said the Chief Defence PRO in a statement.
Naval ships and aircraft have been deployed to sanitise the sea areas off the coast of Mumbai and investigate suspicious ships and crafts, said the statement.
