Stealing a march over many better-endowed states — infrastructurally — Chhattisgarh is deploying an ambitious network to deliver over 130 online citizen services.

The Statewide wireless WiMAX umbrella is a hybrid of voice, video and data using fixed lines, satellite and radio technologies.

It is one of the nation’s largest infrastructure deployments to date, says the Chhattisgarh Information Technology Secretary, Mr Aman Kumar Singh, who also announced that the system is being created using hardware and software from networking leader Juniper.

At a media event here on Friday, Juniper Networks executives shared details of the system, which harnesses the company’s M and J series routers and integrated security gateways — some of these products co-engineered at its Bangalore-based centre. TCS is Juniper’s systems partner in this venture.

The networking player based in California was co founded in 1996, by an Indian — Mr Pradeep Sindhu, who is today Juniper’s Chief Technology Officer.

Mr Nagendra Venkaswamy, Managing Director, Juniper ( India and SAARC), explained that Chhattisgarh was the third State to deploy the company’s networking and security solutions, after Himachal Pradesh and Bihar. Juniper’s all-in-one operating system, JUNOS, which works seamlessly across routers, switches and security products, is a key plus point for such deployments, where nodes might be in remote areas, explained Mr Sridhar Sarathay, Juniper’s Vice-President, India Operations and Engineering head.

Juniper also announced that Sify Technologies was poised to offer managed security solutions for Indian businesses using its adaptive threat management tools.
