Chennai, Nov. 28 Set against the backdrop of a recessionary economy and slow pace of hiring, speakers at the National HRD Network’s National Conference on ‘What’s Beyond?’ HR’s Next Agenda, asked the country’s HR fraternity to look for creative and lasting solutions during challenging times. Delivering the Chairman’s address at the conference, Mr S. Ramadorai, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Consultancy Services, spoke of three fundamental themes for HR which would provide the key for future strategies. “Leadership should sense business changes before others see them and address them by reorganising the organisation structure.” TCS, for instance, has broken up the company into mini organisations run like mini TCSs to manage it better, he said. These are run by the designated people who take on the roles of CEOs. “The organisation is thus grooming the future leadership for itself.” He also recommended the practice of inclusiveness which connotes the abolition of attitudinal barriers of age, sex, nationality and education. HR, he said, could help in diversity awareness and its impact on business. Mr Ramadorai was also strongly in favour of HR practising people life-cycle management in an organisation. “The organisation should acquire a life-like form in an employee’s mind.” These strategies would automatically align HR to business, according to him. In his keynote address at the conference, Mr Rajesh Nambiar, Vice-President and General Manager, Global Delivery, IBM India, said global talent sourcing and managing people’s hunger for change should be the new agenda for HR. “Organisations have to be disruptive in nature, destroying their old businesses and creating new ones.” The HR agenda should be set with an adaptable workforce, visionary challengers and people who can manage change.
