Coimbatore industry bodies ask Centre to deal firmly with terror

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, Nov. 28 The industry associations in Coimbatore have asked the Centre to adopt a tough stand in dealing with acts of terrorism. They have also asserted that terrorist attacks would only make the country work harder to become a global economic power.

In a joint statement issued here, Mr Mahendra Ramdas, President, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Mr K. Ilango, President, Coimbatore District Small Industries Association; Mr Jayakumar Ramdass, President, Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association; Mr G. Soundararajan, President, South India Small Spinners Association; and Dr K. Selvaraju, Secretary General, Southern India Mills Association, said Mumbai was targeted to “shatter the confidence of global investors’ in India and to destabilise the economic growth.

Foundation

They said national security was the foundation on which the economic growth of the country was built and this was what the terrorists wanted to destroy.

They urged the Government to adopt a “tougher approach to deal with terrorism and foil the attempts to breach our national security”.

The attacks also exposed the vulnerability of our institutions but such attacks would not deter us and “we shall work harder to make India a global economic power”, they said.

The signatories conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families and commended the brave officers who laid down their lives to guard the nation, and said “we will together to prove to the world that India will rise every time more powerfully” after every attack.
