Terrorism Taj repairs, renovations may take a year: Krishnakumar
The company will draw up a plan as soon as the property is handed over to the management. – Mr R.K. Krishnakumar
Our Bureau Mumbai, Nov. 28 “We are confident of restoring the glory of Taj Mumbai,” said Mr R.K. Krishnakumar, Vice-Chairman, Indian Hotels Company Ltd, owners of the Taj which was damaged in the terrorist attack. He said the repair and renovations of the hotel – a well known landmark in south Mumbai – may take a year. The cost will have to be worked out in consultation with experts. Right now the property is under the custody of security forces and we expect the combing and rescue operation will be over in a day or two. Mr Krishnakumar said the company will draw up a plan as soon as the property is handed over to the management. He said the hotel has insurance against terrorist attack and loss of revenue. Meanwhile, a company statement said the rescue and recovery operations by the security forces are continuing at the Taj. To provide timely updates and assistance to the guests and their families, the hotel has set-up a 24x7 helpline, the statement said. Our Kolkata bureau adds:The East India Hotels, which owns Oberoi Trident Hotel in Mumbai, was allowed to take charge of the hotel on Friday evening, from the Nation Security Guards this evening. The hotel was one of the 10 locations in Mumbai attacked by terrorists on Wednesday night. Commandos fought the terrorists for two days and secured the hotel this afternoon. In a note, the management of Oberoi Trident Hotel said : “The police and government authorities have allowed us access to the hotel. We were granted permission to begin evacuating guests from the hotel at 10 am today.” The hotel staff escorted the guests to a nearby facility where first aid and counselling was provided. They were then taken to other hotels in the city. “This process is likely to take time as we are going room to room, one floor at a time.” Mr S.S. Mukherji, Managing Director, EIH, who was inside the hotel, told Business Line late in the evening that the exercise was still on. More Stories on : Terrorism | Hotels
