Letters Create climate for investments The unprecedented terror attack on the country’s financial capital has exposed to the world the ineffectiveness of the security and intelligence agencies in Mumbai. It will not be an exaggeration to say that, today, anyone can come and attack the metropolis. While the Chief Minister has been making loud proclamations that the State would receive massive foreign investments and that 59 lakh jobs would be generated through the 131 SEZs, the attacks will definitely make foreign investors feel that investments in not only Mumbai, but in the whole of Maharashtra, are not safe. It is of utmost importance that the security apparatus is overhauled in the metropolis so as to ensure that foreign investments are re-attracted to Mumbai and Maharashtra. These investments and the proposed SEZs will help create large-scale employment. If the conducive atmosphere is not created, foreign investors would prefer States such as Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. K. Y.
