Outlook Government - Security Industry & Economy - Terrorism Firepro sees rise in Govt spending on surveillance tools Anjana Chandramouly Bangalore, Dec. 1 “Unfortunate incidents like the terror attacks in Mumbai only reinforce the need for security systems. And what you put there in properties are just engineered products. How much you get out of them depends on the intent of the owner of the property,” said Mr M.C. Muthanna, Chief Operating Officer, Firepro Systems, a provider of building systems such as fire safety, electronic security and building management systems. In the wake of these attacks, the company expects the Government to have better surveillance equipment installed in public spaces such as railway stations and bus stations, “which would essentially act as a deterrent,” he said. He also pointed out that more than 25 per cent of such surveillance solutions globally have been installed in the UK. Response mechanismThere are two aspects to security systems, according to Mr Muthanna — prevention and post-event measures. “Much depends on the process and people who would respond to the product that has been installed. There should be a response mechanism in place,” he added. Despite best systems in place, such events could sometimes be unavoidable. “But these equipment would help investigators go back and check what exactly happened,” he said. “The increasing levels of sophistication in safety and protection solutions are also a direct result of the need to protect large and critical investments,” said the company’s Web site. Firepro has solutions for fire detection and alarm, access control, video surveillance, perimeter protection, home automation and public address. The capabilities of the company, which initially focussed on fire detection and suppression, now includes design, engineering, project execution, installation, commissioning, integration and post-installation services. Firepro has executed over 800 projects across sectors such as IT/ITES, malls, hospitality, healthcare, education, industrial, infrastructure and residential. The company has presence in 14 locations in India and also in West Asia, Australia and Singapore.
