New Business Government - Security Astra Micro bags order from Israel co Hyderabad, Dec. 1 Astra Microwave Products Ltd (AMP) has received an order for Rs 57.31 crore from ELTA Systems Ltd, Israel. The order is for the supply of microwave wireless sub-systems for India’s defence radar programme. The contract is valid between November 2008 and mid-2010. The order from ELTA, a group subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries, is Astra’s first contract under the offset obligations clause of India’s Defence Procurement Policy (DPP), 2006, according to a company press release. The offset clause mandates that 30 per cent of all defence contracts worth Rs 300 crore and above must be invested in the Indian defence industry by way of sourcing components, sharing technology, setting up training centres etc. The Managing Director of Astra Microwave, Mr B. Malla Reddy, said: “Offset obligations provide a significant opportunity for manufacturers and technology providers in the Indian defence space.
