Pension for physically challenged increased

Hyderabad, Dec. 1 The Andhra Pradesh Government has announced an increase in pensions for the physically challenged which would be implemented from today.
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said it is being implemented from today as already assured by him that the State Government would increase pensions to Rs 500 a month to all the physically challenged persons who have more than 40 per cent disability.
He also announced that those who have 60-80 per cent disability will be given Rs 600 a month and those who are 80-100 per cent disabled will be given Rs 700 a month.
The Chief Minister also said that District Medical Boards will be set up in each district and these boards will issue these certificates after thorough examination of the disabled.
“These would be done in a transparent and professional way and the physically challenged persons could approach and apply to these Medical Boards and get the certificates,” a release from the Chief Minister’s Office said.
In all 8,28,058 physically challenged persons will be given pensions in the State and the total expenditure towards the pensions for the physically challenged will be Rs 496.83 crore a year and would cost Rs 41.40 crore a month to the State exchequer.
