Airlines AI to cut fuel surcharge by Rs 400 Our Bureau Our Bureau New Delhi, Dec 1 Air India is to reduce the fuel surcharge on both short and long haul flights by Rs 400 from Tuesday. This follows a downward revision in the price of aviation turbine fuel by the domestic oil companies. Between September and now, ATF prices in Delhi have declined from Rs 59.65 a litre to Rs 36.89. Sources told Business Line that from Tuesday, passengers booking tickets with the State- owned airline will be charged a fuel surcharge of Rs 2,700 for flights of more than 750 km and Rs 1,950 for flights of shorter distances. The airline has, however, not announced any reduction in the basic fares. Addressing the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit recently, the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, had asked the airlines to look at reducing fares as the prices of aviation turbine fuel have been declining. Between September and now, ATF prices in Delhi have declined from Rs 59.65 to Rs 36.89. There was no word from the other domestic airlines whether they would also reduce either the fuel surcharge or the basic fare.
