Letters Eternal vigilance The catastrophic terrorist attack in Mumbai should be a tragic reminder to various sections of the Indian public to maintain a constant alert against such strikes. The choice of the city of Mumbai and the targets indicate that the perpetrators were aiming at the destruction of economic development, and were bent on inflicting the maximum casualties. In the circumstances the industrial sector has a great responsibility in ensuring that the country’s development activity is not interrupted. Industrial units have to equip themselves with foolproof security set-ups, round the clock, without depending on the government. Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty is a valuable quote. T. R. Anandan Coimbatore Care for the heroesThe Mumbai carnage has made it abundantly clear that so many owed so much to a very few. In the dastardly attack on the innocent men, women and children, but for a few heroes, many more would have been massacred. In the process, some of the brave soldiers and policemen paid the ultimate price. From the top leaders downwards, we have all offered our condolences and sympathies. But we need to offer more practical assistance. What we need is a permanent organisation or trust that will take care of those in dire need in a small way. The media can perhaps come together and form a trust for this purpose. This will enable leading industrial houses, business barons, professionals and common citizens to contribute to the fund. The trust can administer the fund and distribute to the families of the poorer heroes, who have lost their breadwinner, any reasonable amount for their living and sustenance. I hope the concerned persons will quickly come together and take a lead in providing succour to the needy. Any delay will loose focus. Better to strike the iron when it is hot. K.
