Railways South East Central Rly freight traffic up 7.2 mt Our Bureau Kolkata, Dec. 2 Between April and November, South East Central Railway (SECR), the largest freight loading zonal railway, handled a total originating freight traffic of 85.84 million tonnes (mt), up 7.23 mt over the same period of last year, according to a press release issued by the Railway. SECR has been given a freight loading target of 133.5 mt for 2008-09 against its actual handling of 121.5 mt in 2007-08. Which means, to achieve the target, SECR has to handle one mt of additional traffic every month on an average. Throughput rises in NovIn November, the throughput was 11.20 mt which was approximately 1.25 mt more than the same month of the previous year. This had been possible due to increased coal loading at both Korba and Ib, the two major coal loading areas. In Korba, the average daily loading was 34.6 rakes a day. The previous best was 34.4 rakes a day in October 2008. Similarly, at Ib, the average daily loading of 20.07 rakes a day exceeded the previous best of 19.8 rakes in October 2008, though marginally. As for other cargoes, the cement loading at 457 wagons a day was 16.5 per cent more than that in the same period of last year, foodgrains loading at 68 wagons a day registered 100 per cent growth and the loading of raw materials for steel plants at 482 wagons a day, a meagre growth of 0.63 per cent over the same period of last year.
