Tata Motors petition in Calcutta HC

Kolkata, Dec. 2

Tata Motors Ltd (TML) filed a writ petition in Calcutta High court on Tuesday challenging the vires of the Right to Information Act, 2005. In the petition, TML has prayed for injunction against the State Information Commissioner from disclosing the memorandum of agreement dated March 9, 2007, between TML and WBIDC before the public. A further injunction was sought for staying the proceedings pending before the Chief Information Commissioner with regard to the disclosure of agreement under the RI Act 2005. It has been stated by TML Counsel that the Information Commissioner sought the copy of agreement in a sealed cover which, according to Tata counsel, is an exercise beyond his jurisdiction. Mr Justice Dipankar Datta fixed the hearing for Friday, December 5. —
