‘Friend of courts’

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Dec. 2 Keeping in mind growing number of cyber crimes and absence of adequate information, Data Security Council of India (DSCI) has decided to act as ‘amicus curiae’ to provide relevant information.

Amicus curiae (Friend of court) is someone who is not party to a case, but volunteers to provide a brief or learned treatise that would be handy for the judiciary in understanding and deciding on a knotty issue.

“We will work to create awareness on various issues related to cyber challenges,” Mr Shyamal Ghosh, Chairman of DSCI, said.

He said the industry expected the amendments to the IT Act to be passed in the ensuing session of Parliament. This would allow DSCI to play a bigger role in tackling issues related to data security.
