Kottayam, Dec. 3 The rubber prices fell further on Wednesday. The sentiments were hammered by the sharp decline in RSS 3 (spot) to Rs 65.06 from Rs 70.16 a kg at Bangkok.

In the domestic scene, sheet rubber RSS 4 weakened to Rs 64 from Rs 66 a kg on selling from dealers and growers. The volumes were comparatively better.

Rubber futures on the Tokyo Commodity finished marginally higher on short covering at lower levels. But the market lost its steam towards the morning close as players focused on repositioning. Prices continued to fluctuate in a narrow range from midmorning to afternoon. The March 2009 contract even gave up the morning gains and fell below its previous close on late trading.

RSS 3 improved at its December futures to ¥107.0 (Rs 57.57) from ¥105, January futures to ¥108.5 (107.4), February to ¥110.6 (109.9), April to ¥115.0 (113.1) and May to ¥117.6 (116.6) while its March futures slipped to ¥111.3 (111.7) a kg at TOCOM.

Spot rubber rates (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 64 (66); RSS-5: 62.50 (64); Ungraded: 60 (62); ISNR 20: 61.50 (63.50) and Latex 60 per cent: 46.50 (47.50).
