‘People component was the weakest link in the security network.’ K.V. Kurmanath Hyderabad, Dec. 3 Satyam Computer Services will await the third quarter results to decide on what course it should take in terms of human resources. “As of now, we are going to continue with the present policies. We have a variety of options on our hand which we will exercise after seeing the performance in the third quarter,” Mr S.V. Krishnan, Global Head (Human Resources) of Satyam told Business Line. OptionsAsked whether the company was contemplating to give an option to employees to go on a sabbatical, he said that was one of the options. The others include allowing them to work in company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives and to associate with non-governmental organisations. “But we don’t exercise them at present. As I said earlier, we will wait till Q3 results are out. The results would be a good indication for the whole of the industry,” he said. “As of now, we don’t have any problem. Attrition rate has come down from 13.5 per cent to 12.5 per cent in Satyam Computer Services (minus other group companies) which employs 47,000 people.” Including its group companies, Satyam has 53,000 employees. Weakest linkEarlier talking at an information security summit organised by the Natioanl Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) on security in a globalised environment, he said people component was the weakest link in the security network. “Human resources are the critical link in the security triad of people-processes-technologies. Disgruntled staff could resort to technology or media-related terrorism. Every employee has access to some confidential information,” he said. Background checksBackground checks were a must and companies should ensure strict disciplinary compliance system, he said. “A clean input (people with clear backgrounds) would help achieve easier processes in the organisation,” Mr Krishnan added.
