Arrivals surge at Kochi tea auction


The sale witnessed better enquiry from exporters for CTC leaf and orthodox leaf grades.

Kochi, Dec. 4 Arrivals of both dust and leaf grades continued to be high at the Kochi Tea Auction and prices continued to gravitate lower.

Domestic market operators were selective at the dust tea auction, while interstate buyers operated with less strength.

Major blenders mainly restricted their operations to good liquoring CTC dust varieties. There was selective enquiry from for orthodox leaf grades from exporters.

At lower levels, there was better enquiry from exporters for CTC leaf grades.

Dust, Leaf Auction

There was 13.74 lakh kg of dust tea on offer at the auction where prices continued to reign low. Both good liquoring CTC and other high priced grades quoted lower. Prices of orthodox high grown and medium orthodox grades also fell sharply. Best CTC grades fetched Rs 75-100, medium CTC was at Rs 63-72 and below medium quoted Rs 50-56. High grown BOPD was at Rs 73-75, while medium BOPD fetched Rs 47-48.

There was 4.79 lakh kg of leaf tea on offer and lower demand pulled down the prices of high grown orthodox, medium and plainer orthodox grades. CTC leaf prices were also lower.

Best Nilgiri grades quoted Rs 65-75, medium orthodox was at Rs 52-63 and plain orthodox quoted Rs 50-52. Best CTC leaf was at Rs 60-68 and medium CTC fetched Rs 52-58.

Top Prices

In the dust segment, Pasuparai SFD fetched the top price at Rs 108 followed by Kallyar SFD at Rs 106.

In the leaf category Glendale OP fetched the top price at Rs 155.
